Your Watch died. Stopped ticking. The time is only correct twice a day. What now? Changing the battery is a simple procedure and not a big deal, right? WRONG!
First of all, most watches have backs that are hard to get off. Some twist, some pop off, half require special tools that clamp into the grooves on the back of your watch to give it leverage so you can rotate the back off. Then, if you can pop or rotate the back off, you're now looking into the guts of the watch. Most watches are similar but there are some important differences. The size of the battery, the position of the battery, the clamps are all different from one watch line to another. Some have very tiny screws holding things down. You may not have a screwdriver small enough to work, or you have large hands that will make it hard to get it all back together again.
To keep it simple, here's why you shouldn't change your own watch battery. You may save a couple bucks doing the battery change yourself, however, you may short circuit the watch, break the stem off, crack the crystal or band, and you'll realize that CHEAP battery replacement just cost you a lot of money. Its good to let the Pros do it.
Also, keep in mind, that it may not always be the battery, but the watch itself that needs repair. Like most machines, watches also need periodic maintenance. A cleaning, oiling and adjustment may be recommended when the battery is good, but the watch still doesn't run quite right.
