DIAMOND…Did You Know?
The word "diamond" comes from the Greek word "adamas" which means unconquerable. Diamonds are one of the oldest materials on Earth, definitely the hardest in nature, hence the origin of the phrase "diamonds are forever."
The first known engagement ring was given by Archduke Maximilian of Austria in 1477. The wife to be, Mary of Burgandy, wore it on the third finger of her left hand, now known as the ring finger. This was done so that the ring touched a vein believed to go directly to the heart (vena amorous). In recent history, the diamond has been used as a symbol of love, devotion, passion, commitment and wealth. Today, more than 200,000 diamond engagement rings are happily placed on ring fingers every year.
Diamonds are lifelong reminders of love and attachment--and having sealed a bond for one generation, they can be passed unblemished to the next. Today there is a high demand for platinum diamond engagement rings as the ultimate sign of love and engagement.
In addition to being April’s birthstone, diamonds are given for the 60th-wedding anniversary
